The all-rounder: the most important pliers functions in one tool
Combination pliers are real all-rounders. They combine the two most important basic functions of pliers (gripping and cutting) in one tool. Multi-function pliers, on the other hand, include even more functions, such as crimping.
If you want to use these pliers to master challenges such as cutting hard wires, you have to rely on a special cutting edge hardness. At KNIPEX, the cutting edges are additionally induction-hardened using a high-frequency current, so that nails, thinner cables or wire can be cut easily and reliably – and the longevity of your combination pliers is guaranteed at all times.
The gripping jaws with fine toothing provide optimum hold of flat parts and small workpieces. They are of course also an essential feature in other versions such as the needle-nose combination pliers or the mini combination pliers.

No question: the supply of combination and multi-function pliers is immense. Pliers length, weight, material or degree of hardness of the cutting edges - there are a number of criteria that can help you with the selection. 1. The question of material
Robust and temperature-resistant. These are minimum requirements for high-quality combination and multi-function pliers. Most of them are made from special tool steel that can withstand mechanical loads.
2. The question of length
A pair of combination pliers is a classic tool - and hardly any aspect is as important when purchasing as the question: “Do the pliers lie comfortably in your hand?” Those with smaller palms and fingers are well advised to use pliers in the shorter range of the common 160 to 220 millimeter pliers length. Large hands, on the other hand, should grab the models of 220 millimeters. What may seem "unwieldy" to some is "just right" for others.
3. The question of cutting edge hardness
A very simple test can provide initial insights into the quality of the cutting edges: a sheet of paper should be easy to cut through. With the internationally used unit Rockwell (HRC), the degree of hardness of the cutting edges can be quantified.
The cutting edges of commercially available combination pliers usually lie between 60 HRC and 64 HRC. Versions at the upper end of this scale are particularly suitable for cutting hard materials.
