KNIPEX special tools for photovoltaic systems

Extensive selection of tools for the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems

The number of installed photovoltaic systems is increasing worldwide. Statista  records that in 2020, the cumulative installed rated output of photovoltaic systems worldwide was around 760 gigawatts. In 2019, the equivalent of 116,900 megawatts of power were installed - more than ever before. The largest number of photovoltaic systems was installed in Asia, followed by the regions of North America and Europe. In a global comparison, China has by far the greatest installed photovoltaic capacity. It is followed by the USA and Japan. In Germany, too, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic systems has increased significantly. In recent times. around nine percent of the total gross electricity generated in Germany came from photovoltaic systems. In 2020, around 34.9 million tons of CO2 were saved through the use of photovoltaics.

KNIPEX special tool for photovoltaic installation and maintenance

The potential for using these systems is enormous. That is why KNIPEX has set itself the task of equipping installers who work on the maintenance and installation of solar power systems as effectively as possible. The tool case for photovoltaic systems (97 91 01) contains three precision tools: The precision insulation stripper with customised blades (1.5 – 6.0 mm²), a cable cutter (Ø 15 mm / 50 mm²) as well as crimping system pliers for replaceable crimping dies, which can be supplemented with a wide range of accessories for any task. Alternatively, the precision insulation stripper with customised blades in the tool case with article number 97 91 03 can also be selected for the 4 to 10 mm² application range.

The precision insulation stripper for solar cables can be used for the efficient stripping even of difficult-to-remove insulating materials made of PTFE, silicone, Radox®, Kapton® and rubber. The replaceable customised blades are precisely designed for the respective conductor cross section and a second pair of blades is designed to secure the remaining insulation. The steel pliers have an adjustable length stop and have an additional cable support for better centring.

The cable shears can be used to cut single or multi-wire copper and aluminium cables, ensuring a clean cut thanks to the hardened cutting edge, and can be easily operated with one hand.

The crimping system pliers for replaceable crimping dies offers a consistently high crimping quality with almost parallel crimping movements thanks to precision dies and an automatic lock. Just one tool for nearly 1,000 crimping applications. Thanks to the ergonomically shaped handles and the various locators for precise positioning, precision work is guaranteed. The tools come in an impact-resistant plastic case and are protected by a foam tray with integrated recesses.

Crimping system pliers and installation tool kit for MC4 solar cable connectors

Multi-contact MC4 connectors are particularly commonly used in photovoltaic systems worldwide. KNIPEX therefore offers the crimping system pliers, item number 97 43 66, now also available in a pack with the crimping die specially designed for MC4 solar cable connectors, for working with these connections. It can be used in the 2.5 mm², 4 mm² and 6 mm² ranges.

KNIPEX also provides a set of two installation tools in one with the handy installation tool kit for MC4 solar cable connectors (97 49 66 2): Made of glass fibre reinforced plastic, the tool is used to tighten and loosen cable glands on MC4 solar cable connectors and to loosen the lock on MC4 housings, even when a locking sleeve is fitted.
