Pliers for electrical work from KNIPEX

Where good tools become a matter of trust

Electrical engineering is undoubtedly one of the most advanced trades. It is particularly important to be up to date and always have the right tool at hand. Our electrical installation pliers help you do an excellent job anywhere - when working in tried and tested environments as well as when tackling new technologies .

Everyday working life is demanding, and with electrical tools from KNIPEX you are ideally equppied for standard work and special cases – thanks to universally applicable hand tools such as high-quality combination pliers or specialised problem solvers such as telephone pliers.

While flat-nose pliers, for example, are universally applicable, the working area of telephone pliers is extremely specialised: they are used in narrow control boxes or telecommunications environments, where the curved gripping jaws are particularly helpful.

But it is not just performance and resilience that are important to us when designing our electrical tools – ergonomics also play a key role. Whether crimping, stripping or simply gripping - KNIPEX electrical pliers form a unit with your hand. Their body-friendly designs relieve muscles and tendons and make work noticeably easier.

Our range covers all core areas of electrical installation: You will find high-quality crimping pliers as well as automatic wire strippers and powerful side cutters. We can of course also provide you with flat nose pliers, needle nose pliers or telephone pliers from KNIPEX. Every single KNIPEX product was carefully  designed and tailored to the needs of the user.

Pliers for electrical installation

To the product

Our pliers for electrical installation are an excellent example for a combined tool. Six functions are combined in one pair of pliers: gripping flat and round material as well as bending and deburring, cutting and stripping of cables, and crimping wire ferrules.

KNIPEX ErgoStrip®

To the product

The innovative KNIPEX ErgoStrip® is designed as a universal stripping tool for several work steps: It is not only made to cut and remove the sheathing of round, damp-proof, coax and data cables, but it can also cut round and damp-proof cables longitudinally and strip the insulation off strands with cross sections from 0.2 to 4 mm².

KNIPEX Twistor16®

To the product

With the innovative crimping pliers KNIPEX Twistor16®, wire ferrules can be crimped from almost any working position. This is made possible by the rotatable crimping die, which is flexible and safe to use. The crimping tool automatically adjusts to all cross sections from 0.14 to 16 mm².

Which pliers are electrical pliers ?

Compared to most crafts, work on electrical systems has different requirements. Wherever electricity can flow, it is not just precise movements that count – but above all, very special efforts to protect the health of the electrician .

This is why the complex insulation is a special characteristic of electrical pliers .

There is just no way around carefully tested and high-quality tools such as those from KNIPEX. (see also: VDE pliers and ESD pliers )

Features of VDE pliers

The abbreviation VDE stands for the German "Association of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology". The focus of this registered association is the development of VDE standards for the manufacture of tools . Since electricians are regularly exposed to possibly mortal dangers in their daily work, strict regulations with regard to an adequate insulation are essential.

The VDE also maintains a renowned testing institute. Products tested here by independent specialists feature the triangular VDE logo which certifies high quality and suitability for use. Although the “GS” mark given here to a new tool signals “tested safety”, every tool should be checked regularly for any damage that may occur in everyday work. After all, even a tiny cut or tear in the insulation can lead to the worst possible consequences.

But it is not only the topic of safety that presents developers of excellent electricians' tools with challenges. Precise crimping, stripping or cutting in particularly narrow working environments is only possible if the tool allows it. Small dimensions and special spring mechanisms are therefore extremely important in order to give electrical professionals the necessary scope and the greatest possible sensitivity.

Pliers for the electrical industry

The quality of a hand tool for electrical installation is primarily determined by whether it is possible to work precisely in the tightest of spaces. Slim handles and pliers heads are just as important as designs that provide sensitivity right up to the gripping jaws.

Compliance with special standards must also be guaranteed, for example by using VDE pliers. Relevant electrical tools include:

Gripping pliers such as flat-nose pliers and needle-nose pliers

The short and flat gripping jaws of flat-nose pliers have a roughened gripping surface, which makes it possible to securely grip and hold different workpieces. When the gripping surfaces taper towards the front, we speak of needle-nose pliers. Their special design helps you to reach through small openings.

Flat-nose pliers : The wide, roughened gripping jaws for greater holding force characterize flat-nose pliers. In the electrical sector they are used for holding and guiding for example cables, plugs and system parts.

Needle-nose pliers : With the pointed, roughened gripping jaws, needle-nose pliers can be used through small openings. They are also often used to bend wires.

Cutting pliers

Side cutters, electronic front cutters and electronic oblique cutters are considered indispensable classics. They are used to disconnect cables and cut connectors.

Compression tools

When it comes to making electrical connections, crimping tools offer a practical alternative to welding and soldering. Crimping is a special pressing technique in which plug contacts and cables are connected to one another by plastic deformation. Different versions of crimping dies are aimed at different pairings of plugs and cables.

The wire stripper: The wire stripper makes it possible to cut and remove cable insulations of different cross-sections. They are available with round, straight or V-shaped cutting openings, and as mechanical or automatic models. The main goal when using it is not to damage the stranded wires or wires behind it.
