Wheels & Tyres
When working on wheels and tyres, a secure grip and precise cutting are essential. The pliers wrench grips hexagonal nuts firmly without scratching anodised or chrome plated surfaces. The KNIPEX CoBolt® allows you to cut spokes and wire reliably – handy when a wheel needs to be dismantled. Our diagonal cutters for plastic, with flat-ground cutting edges, ensure flush cuts and reduce the need for reworking. The XS mini pliers set proves handy when on the go. It is compact, lightweight and robust, and is suitable for tightening nuts or holding small components.
Fitting and removing wheels
When working on wheels, the drivetrain or brakes, it is important to loosen axles quickly and without causing damage. The pliers wrench provides a secure handle on axles with a hexagonal shank and protects sensitive surfaces such as anodised aluminium from damage.
Recycling of bicycle wheels
When dismantling a bicycle wheel, this compact bolt cutter comes into its own. Spokes are positioned close to the joint and cut through with minimal effort thanks to the micro-structured cutting edge. The gripping surface at the joint is also suitable for pulling or securing cables.
Adjusting tyre treads
In off-road cycling, professionals even adapt their tyre treads to the conditions in order to further maximise performance. For example, shortening the lugs improves rolling performance on certain terrains. The build-up of mud or dirt on the tyres can also be influenced. The flat-ground cutting edges are angled at 45° and cut very flush.
Truing wheels on the go
The mini pliers set XS is a compact on-the-go tool kit. The belt pouch contains a 100 mm KNIPEX Cobra® for round parts up to 28 mm in diameter and a pliers wrench for hex head screws up to 21 mm in width across flats. This allows you to centre wheels even when out and about.
Gears & Brakes
When working on the gearbox and brakes, having the right tools is crucial. Our hose cutter cuts hydraulic hoses at a right angle, preventing any crushing marks. The specially hardened teeth of the KNIPEX Cobra® securely grip cable cables, whilst the wire rope cutter cuts Bowden cables cleanly without fraying. The smooth jaws of the pliers wrench also allow brake discs to be aligned whilst protecting the surface. Furthermore, the slim head shape of the needle-nose combination pliers enables the precise bending of split pins on brake systems.
Cutting hydraulic brake hoses
When cutting hoses for hydraulic braking systems, it is important to ensure a smooth cut without crushing the hose, as a pin must later be inserted into the hose opening. Thanks to its universal support, our hose cutter is ideally suited to this task and produces a clean cut with minimal effort.
Clamping brake cables
The KNIPEX Cobra® is suitable for gripping and loosening tight screw connections and can also be used when tensioning cable pulls. Thanks to the fine adjustment, it can be precisely adjusted. It is available in various lengths: the compact XS version at 100 mm is handy for on the go, whilst the 250 mm version is frequently used in workshops and is highly versatile.
Shortening brake cables
Bowden cables and cable cables are used in a variety of applications in bicycle construction, for example in mechanical gear systems, brakes or height-adjustable seat posts. The wire rope cutter enables precise work with minimal effort and prevents crushing. It also offers crimping profiles for end sleeves on Bowden cables and end caps for cable cables.
Straightening brake discs
If brake discs become slightly warped, for example after a fall, they can be carefully corrected without scratching using a pliers wrench. And if different or more powerful brake calipers are to be fitted, the hydraulic brake lines must be opened. The pliers wrench is ideal for opening and tightening hexagonal cap nuts.
Replacing brake pads
Needle-nose combination pliers are used for a wide range of tasks, such as bending or pulling split pins on brakes, and loosening the often stubborn cap nuts on tyre valves. The single-sided convex gripping surface allows for a secure grip on flat parts, whilst the milled groove in the gripping area makes it easier to hold and pull small workpieces such as nails, pins and bolts.
Frames & Components
Whether it’s seized screws, worn hex bolts or delicate screw connections – working on frames and components requires the right tools. The KNIPEX TwinGrip with front gripping function grips securely and loosens even rounded screws with ease. The Pliers Wrench impresses with smooth, parallel jaws that grip components securely without damaging surfaces. Whether for adjusting headsets, fitting stems or readjusting components.
Loosening worn bolt heads
Worn or broken bolt heads often present a challenge. With its front and side gripping function, the KNIPEX TwinGrip® offers a solution that works even in hard-to-reach places. Its slim design makes it easy to use in tight spaces and enables precise work.
Fitting & removing pedals
The smooth, parallel-gripping jaws of the pliers wrench are ideal for holding anodised or chrome plated components securely yet gently – without scratching them. Hex bolts and many cap nuts of all sizes within the capacity range can be screwed in quickly thanks to the stroke between the gripping jaws – just like with a full ratchet set.
Electrics
Whether it’s lighting, sensors or motor control – e-bikes in particular present new challenges for electrical systems. With our Electronic Super Knips® XL, individual conductors can be cut cleanly and cable ties can be cut flush without leaving any sharp edges. Our KNIPEX ComStrip automatically adapts to different cable cross-sections and quickly removes insulation without damaging the conductor. This ensures reliable connections.
Cable fastening with cable ties
The Electronic Super Knips® XL not only cuts fine conductors with extreme precision, but also cable ties, which are used as handy aids by many cyclists and in workshops – for example, to secure cables and Bowden cables to the frame. The cutting edge without a bevel allows cable ties to be cut flush, so there is no risk of injury from sharp cut edges.
Fitting lights to an e-bike
Bicycles with permanently fitted lights often have electrical cables that require precise handling. Our compact insulation stripper automatically adapts to different cable cross-sections and features a highly precise fine adjustment – ensuring no damage to the wires. Cables ranging from 0.2 to 6 mm² can be cut and stripped quickly and precisely. The slim head design allows access to even hard-to-reach areas.
Handlebar, Fork & Seatpost
The Combination Shears feature hardened, precision-edge cutting edges that ensure clean cuts, for example when changing handlebar tape. Thanks to the full-surface contact of the jaws, the headset play can be adjusted using the Pliers Wrench without damaging any components. For work on tubes, such as shortening seat posts, the KNIPEX TubiX® pipe cutter offers a practical solution, as it holds and clamps the tube independently, thus simplifying handling.
Handlebar tape replacement
Handlebar tape is replaced at regular intervals for hygiene reasons or when worn. Thanks to their precision edge, our shears cut very cleanly and, above all, without slipping.
Adjusting headset play
For threaded handlebars and seatposts, several wrenches or a ratchet set are usually required. The pliers wrench offers a practical alternative here. The parallel-gripping, smooth gripping jaws can be adjusted to gripping capacities of up to 40 mm at the touch of a button. The stroke between the gripping jaws allows for quick work, similar to using a ratchet spanner.
Shortening the seat post
The KNIPEX TubiX® cuts aluminium and steel tubes with a diameter of 6 to 35 mm precisely and cleanly. It is suitable for shortening fork steerer tubes, handlebars and seat posts to the desired length. With the QuickLock one-hand locking mechanism, the pipe cutter can be easily adjusted to the respective pipe diameter by sliding the carriage. An integrated deburrer allows burrs to be removed immediately after cutting.
Bearing & Axles
When working on small and delicate bicycle components, precision circlip pliers enable the effortless fitting and removal of circlips, which are frequently used on bearings in full-suspension bikes and other types of bicycle. The robust, inserted tips made of piano wire and the large contact surfaces ensure stable handling and controlled application, particularly with delicate components. With precision tweezers, even the smallest parts such as springs, balls or washers can be gripped securely and inserted or removed with precision in hard-to-reach places. Both tools are available with either straight or angled tips.
Fitting and removing external circlips
If, for example, bearings need to be replaced on a full-suspension bike, the precision circlip pliers with straight tips assist in replacing the circlips. The particularly robust tips are made of piano wire and are therefore, unlike milled ones, extremely durable. Variant A1 is for shafts Ø 10–25 mm, A2 for shafts Ø 19–60 mm.
Installation and removal of external circlips
If, for example, circlips need to be replaced on a Fully, the circlip pliers with angled tips assist in replacing the circlips.
