KNIPEX Museum

A journey through the industrial

past of the Bergisches Land

Our museum on the factory premises houses an extensive collection of old tools, equipment, machines, work equipment and entire workplaces on 800 square metres - just a few steps away from the current KNIPEX production. The items exhibited with great attention to detail provide an insight into former techniques and the working conditions of the traditional tool industry in the Bergisches Land region. Over the centuries, new manufacturing processes and products have been developed under constantly changing conditions. The roots of today's tool industry, which is still one of the most important economic sectors in our region, can be seen here.

In addition to almost 80 large exhibits such as forging hammers, grinding machines and workbenches as well as many tools, the museum also displays many everyday objects from the past. Many of the exhibits still work. Flip a switch, turn the crank and the powerful and fast-striking hammer starts to boom. And screws could still be made on the so-called "mop bench" ("mopsen" is dialect for "to turn") - although it takes several minutes to make a single screw.

Although there are no regular opening hours, interested visitors still can experience the impressive collection: Once a year (usually on the 2nd weekend in September), there is an open day as part of "Wuppertal-24h-live", on which guided tours of the museum are offered.
