- High-leverage joint, long handles and optimised cutting edges: noticeably easier cutting than with compact cable shears
- Large cutting capacity: cuts solid copper or aluminium cables up to 35 mm², stranded cables up to 70 mm²and fine stranded cables up to 120 mm²
- Dual cutting areas: Stepped cutting edge holds small and larger cables close to the joint during the cut; the front cutting edge cuts very large cables step by step
- Easy one- or two-handed operation with minimum handle opening for large cable diameters
- Adjustable, high-leverage bolted joint provides precise and smooth cutting
- Slim head for easier accessibility
- Pinch guard prevents operators' fingers being pinched
- Not suitable for steel-reinforced cables, e.g. ACSR
- Cutting edges additionally laser-hardened, cutting edge hardness approx. 56 HRC

The 225 millimetre KNIPEX StepCut XL heavy-duty cable shears are perfect for cutting multi-stranded cables in industrial plants or for domestic connections in residential buildings.
Thanks to the optimised transmission ratio of the screwed joint, it can even cut fine-stranded conductors up to 120 mm² - and much faster than a ratchet cable cutter.
Also noteworthy: the notch for gradually cutting very large cables and the handles that are raised up to the joint for ergonomic one-handed operation.
The KNIPEX StepCut XL 95 1x 225 is the ""big brother"" of the popular StepCut 95 1x 160 from KNIPEX and, with a length of 225 mm, our largest cable shears for one-handed and two-handed use. It is therefore perfect for work on industrial plants, the building connection in residential buildings or on large, stranded earthing cables.
Thanks to several features, it can even be used to cut cables that can otherwise only be cut with ratchet cable cutters or much larger two-handed cable shears (such as KNIPEX 95 12 500): long handles, highly geared joint and a nibbling point.
The long handles with grips close to the joint allow comfortable one-handed use and, if required, powerful two-handed use; the bolted joint is smooth-running and transmits maximum force thanks to its optimised transmission ratio; the graduations in the cutting edge always keep small and large cables close to the joint for the lowest possible cutting forces.
The strikingly shaped cutting edges deserve a second, closer look:
A small area at the front ends serves as a nibbling point, comparable to a sheet metal nibbler. This can be used to cut large fine-stranded and stranded cables such as 5x10 mm² in several small steps. The single-sided spike on one of the cutting edges serves as a stop so that the cable shears only grip as much material as can still be cut easily when nibbling large diameters. This allows even larger cables to be cut in several small steps, which would otherwise only be possible with a ratchet cable cutter or two-handed cable shears - which you can't always have to hand due to their size and weight.
Speaking of which: even in comparison with a ratchet cable cutter, the StepCut XL performs surprisingly well. For example, to cut a hefty 50 mm² multi-wire cable, three cutting movements with a force of around 500 N (Newtons, the physical unit for force) each are usually sufficient with the stepped cutting edges. That is a compressive force that many craftsmen can apply with just one hand! With a ratchet cable cutter, tradespeople only have to apply around 70 N - but up to 15 times for each ratchet stroke. In other words, the StepCut XL usually completes a cutting process like the one in this example much faster! Of course: For very large cables with more than 120 mm², very large two-handed cable shears such as the 95 12 200 or cable cutters with a ratchet principle have the advantage. Of the latter, even small models such as the 95 31 250 from KNIPEX separate stranded copper cables up to 240 mm² more easily and more quickly.
This makes the StepCut XL the perfect shears for all cables for which a ratchet cable cutter is too unwieldy or slow, but which are too difficult to cut with conventional one-handed cable shears. It is therefore aimed at all electrical professionals, whether in construction, recycling or industry.

With two cutting areas
The stepped main cutting edge with the distinctive retaining spike prevents smaller and larger cables from slipping out.

With optimised cutting edge
The front cutting edge serves as a cutting point for gradually cutting through large cables with an ergonomic handle width.

Enormous capacity
Separates solid copper or aluminium cables up to 35 mm², stranded cables up to 70 mm² and fine-stranded cables up to 120 mm².
