The Diagonal Cutters

Diagonal cutters rank among the most useful types of pliers. They are found in every electrician's basic kit.

Diagonal Cutter

In principle, good diagonal cutters have induction hardened cutting edges which are sufficiently sharp and close on top of each other exactly over the entire cutting edge length. They also cut thinner wires "with spring", i.e. they do not just squeeze it.

A distinction is made between Diagonal Cutters and what are known as High-Leverage Diagonal Cutters.

Diagonal cutters are suitable for cutting soft to hard wires; they are e.g. one of the classic tools in the electrician's kit.

High-Leverage Diagonal Cutter

High-leverage diagonal cutters are the more robust and stronger variant.

As they have higher leverage, they cut more easily. In addition they have especially hard cutting edges. They are therefore suitable for all cases where thicker and very hard wires (e.g. hardened spring steel wire known as piano wire) must be cut. KNIPEX High-Leverage Diagonal Cutters are made of particularly high-quality and wear-resistant chrome vanadium steel and have a solid forged rivet, which means that the joint connection has a partucularly high load-bearing capacity.

Tip for cutting pliers:

Always place the wire to be cut
as near as possible to the joint.
This increases the leverage and
considerably reduces the manual
effort when cutting.
