Safety test method to IEC 60900, DIN EN 60900, VDE 0680

To avoid surprises during the work with KNIPEX-pliers, all tools are checked in an extensive safety test method.

Testing for dielectric strength

KNIPEX insulated tools are safety tested individually. All tools with the safety mark have been tested at a voltage of 10 000 V A.C.. They are approved for 1000 V A.C., which gives you a 10-fold safety margin.

Insulation Resistance Testing

After immersing in water for 24 hours the tools are tested at 10000 V A.C. for 3 minutes. Simultaneously any leakage current is measured. Neither a sparkover from the insulation to the bare pliers head nor a breakdown through the insulation is acceptable.

Dielectric Testing

No dielectric breakdown under a pressure of 20 N and temperatures up to +70º C at a test voltage of 5000 V A.C.

Testing for cold impact strength

Testing is conducted at temperatures of -25º C. The insulating material retains the toughness necessary to withstand knocks safely without breaking or splitting.

Testing of adhesiveness

The adhesion of the insulation material is tested to ensure firm bonding to the basic tool – for example on pliers at a tensile load of 500 N after being stored for 168 hours at +70º C.

Combustibility Testing

The low flammability properties of our insulation material eliminates all fire risk.
